Teaching is what drives her to challenge herself and others. In addition, she cycles, runs and hikes…anything that challenges her and pushes her beyond what she considers her limits. She prefers to exercise outdoors whenever possible.

Over the past few years Julie has become interested in accomplishing more challenging goals and completed the Nike half marathon last fall and is training for the race again this year. In addition, she enjoys running short distance races and biathlons. Coming off of a serious calve injury, her goal is to complete a century ride, two half marathons and a handful of short distance races in 2007.

In Julie’s own words: “We can always do more than we think. If we challenge ourselves each day, we will be amazed at what we can accomplish. That being said, we also need to achieve balance and listen to our bodies”.

    Doug Nau, Wellness Coach

    NauD@sutterhealth.org

Professionally, Doug is motivated in seeing the tremendous shift that is taking place in our health care system today. This shift is one that is focusing on prevention rather than intervention.

His personal life experiences, capped by a leukemia diagnosis, were the catalyst that inspired him to make a significant life change of his own and to support others in designing lifestyles that lowered their own personal risk of developing a health condition.

Doug has a strong personal interest in developing community athletics programs. He sits as the President on the Board of Directors for the Lincoln Tennis Association and is actively involved with growing the sport in the community of Lincoln CA – particularly for youth. Doug is a volunteer for and has fundraised for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society – most recently running the Nike Marathon in San Francisco.

There is a growing concern for life balance, harmony, happiness and sustainability – three principles which Doug embraces in coaching his clients to success. anglemp@sutterhealth.org

Mela Angleman is a Wellness Coach for Sutter Health Partners. She welcomes the opportunity to blend her personal, professional and academic experiences to support others in planning steps toward physical and emotional balance in their lives. Mela values the sense of wellness through movement and nature instilled by her family. Mela's mother, a dancer, along with her father who was a swimmer and her rancher grandfather all taught her by example the gift of caring for oneself and the earth. Growing up in Berkeley Mela spent weekends and summers with her grandfather hiking the Bodega family ranch and tending to the fresh organic produce, chickens and eggs. Following in her family’s tradition, Mela continues to grow her own organic vegetables and fruit. Stop by Mela's office for seasonal produce!

Mela has a BA in Sociology and over 25 years experience working as a nurse and nurse practitioner in varied settings spanning life’s continuum from reproductive health to hospice. In her practice as a nurse practitioner and as a friend and family member, Mela has always put wellness at the forefront and supported clients, friends and family in making their physical and emotional health a priority. However, her sister’s death at age 30 coupled with caring for her elderly parents while working and raising her son have given Mela a personal understanding beyond her academic and professional experiences of the challenges faced in maintaining one’s own health and wellness in the face of life’s circumstances. It is this understanding that has brought Mela to a point in her career where her primary focus is supporting the on-going need of individuals and communities to pursue steps to balance both physical and emotional well being in order to live healthier and happier lives individually and collectively.
